National Youth Dragon Boat
Championships - 26th Sept 2009
Worcester Explorers took part in the 18th National Youth
Dragon Boat Championship on Saturday 26th September at Longridge near Marlow in
Buckinghamshire. The team of fourteen Explorer Scouts entered the under 24 class
and finished runners up completing the 450m course in 1:58:99. The winning team
and reigning champions 6th Harrow finished just 1.49 seconds ahead with a full
crew of eighteen.
For their first entry into the championship, it was a
great performance. Not only did the Worcester Explorers crew beat their best
time by twelve seconds but to be so close to the winners with four rowers less
in the engine room was superb. The team are looking to return next year with a
full crew to prevent Harrow making it a hat trick of wins.
The Worcester Explorers would like to thank Pershore
Phoenix Dragon Boat team for their support especially Ian Wylie who trained and
was the helm for the team. The Drummer came from the 5th Worcester Sea Scout
Troop.
